General Rules: How will it go? (For HS and GS Division Only)

ELIMINATIONS

 

  • This will be in the form of a written exam to be taken for two (2) hours.
  • Calculators are not allowed.
  • No one will be permitted to leave the room once the test has started.
  • The top 24 teams will qualify to compete in the semi-finals round.

 

SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL ROUNDS

  • In the event that a contestant wishes to protest a ruling for a particular question, he or she may signal to the judges before the start of the next question. Otherwise, he or she loses the opportunity to do so.
  • Only the contestants are allowed to protest.
  • Once a final decision has been reached, this decision is final and irrevocable.
  • Any form of cheating, no matter how trivial, during any of the rounds will automatically merit disqualification for the involved individuals and their respective teams.
  • Observe proper decorum for the whole duration of the competition.

 

The Ateneo Mathematics Society (AMS), in consultation with the judges, has the right to change one or more parts of the mechanics without prior notice to participants. All such changes will be announced during the contest date.

Algebra, Combinatorics, Simple Word Problems, Calculation Skills, Number Theory, Geometry, Etc.

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION

Trigonometry, Geometry, Number Theory, Algebra, Combinatorics, Calculation Skills, Series, Etc.

COLLEGE DIVISION*

Geometry, Calculus, Probability and Counting, Linear Algebra and others

Eligibility: Who can compete?

All bona fide grade school, high school, and college students are eligible to join.

GRADE SCHOOL DIVISION

A school can send at most three teams, each team with at most three members.  Students in Grade 7 are not allowed to join the competition.

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION

A school can send at most three teams, each team with at most three members.

COLLEGE DIVISION*

No limit shall be imposed on the number of students sent per school. Students shall be competing individually.

Confirmation

Confirmation of participation to Sipnayan 2010 should be done by sending all of the following information either through electronic mail (sipnayan2010@gmail.com) or SMS (09274254477). The SUBJECT of confirmations done through e-mail should be the NAME OF THE SCHOOL (DIVISION). We will reply to those who will confirm early via email with a set of questions taken from last year.

Registration

 

On the day of the competition, participants will be asked to supply pertinent information on the attendance sheet.

Registrations will be held in front of Escaler Hall (HS Division), Leong Hall Auditorium (GS Division) and Ching Tan Room/JGSOM111 (College Division), Ateneo de Manila University. Registration will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m (for HS and GS Division).

GRADE SCHOOL DIVISION (25 Sept)

For the first two (2) participating teams in each school, a registration fee of Php300 will be charged per team.  A third team will be charged Php400, though.  For walk-in participants (i.e. those who did not confirm), the first two teams must pay a registration fee of Php400 each, and for a third team, Php450 will be charged.

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION (4 Sept)

Registration fees for this division will be the same as those for the Grade School division.

COLLEGE DIVISION (CANCELLED)

Each participant shall be charged a registration fee of Php200. Walk-in participants should pay Php300.

 

All payments should be made on the day of the competition only.

  • 1st Place:     Php 3,000, medals and trophy
  • 2nd Place:    Php 2,000, medals and trophy
  • 3rd Place:     Php 1,000, medals and trophy

HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION

  • 1st Place:     Php 5,000, medals and trophy
  • 2nd Place:    Php 3,000, medals and trophy
  • 3rd Place:     Php 2,000, medals and trophy

COLLEGE DIVISION*

  • Top 3:        Cash Prize** and medal

 

The top individual scorer (in the GS and HS Division) will also be recognized.
